General Introduction

The College of River and Ocean Engineering was founded in 2003 whose predecessor is the Department of Waterway and Harbor Engineering established in 1960 and subsequently renamed as the Department of River and Ocean Architectural Engineering in 1997 .

The College of River and Ocean Engineering has qualified to grant the doctoral degree in Hydraulic Engineering, including Hydrology and Water Resources, Hydraulics and River Dynamics, Hydraulic Structure Engineering, Water conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, and Port, Coastal and Offshore Engineering. In addition, it has the right to grant the master degree in Environmental Science and Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Municipal Engineering as well. Also, it has the right to confer the professional master degree in Hydraulic Engineering. Besides, there are 5 bachelor degree majors, including Port Channel and Coastal Engineering, Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Science and Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering.

There has national high quality sharing curriculum, national bilingual courses, national undergraduate courses and8 national and provincial education and scientific research platforms from Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education Ministry of Communications, and National Engineering Research Center for Inland Waterway Regulation.

The College of River and Ocean Engineering has extremely excellent faculty and highly advanced technologies. There are 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (Specially-appointed Professor), 161 faculty and staff members, including 37 professors, 51 associate professors (associate researchers), and more than 113 teachers with doctoral degrees. Among them, there are 5 national candidates of the New Century "Ten Millions and Thousands Talents Project", 2 national outstanding teachers, there are 21 science and technology talents of the Ministry of Transportation, academic and technology leaders of Chongqing, famous teachers of Chongqing, winners of the contribution award for revitalizing Chongqing, and young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Chongqing.

The College of River and Ocean Engineering always focuses on developing students' ability and quality. The initial employment rate of the undergraduate has always remained above 90%. Over the past years, it has more than 20000 graduates, including undergraduate, master and doctoral graduates. And many alumni have become well-known scholars, technology backbone, and enterprise leaders and administrators. The education quality of the College of River and Ocean Engineering has been widely recognized by the society.

History

l1960:The Department of Waterway and Harbor Engineering was founded which is the predecessor of the College of River and Ocean Engineering. 

l1961:Some faculty from the Department of Water Conservancy of Chengdu Institute of Technology were transferred to the Department of Waterway and Harbor Engineering. 

l1963:The Department of Hydraulic Engineering of Wuhan Institute of Water Transport Engineering has been integrated to the Department of  Waterway and Harbor Engineering of Chongqing Jiaotong College.

l1972 -1978:The Department of Waterway and Harbor Engineering of Chongqing Jiaotong College was integrated into the Chongqing Institute of Architectural Engineering.

l1978:The Department of Waterway and Harbor Engineering of Chongqing Jiaotong College was restored.

l1997:The Department of Waterway and Harbor Engineering was renamed as the Department of River and Ocean Architectural Engineering.

l2003:The College of River and Ocean Engineering was established.
