The College of River and Ocean Engineering is the main technical support and talent cultivating base for the construction of major projects in water conservancy and water transportation in China, especially for the southwest of China. It has made outstanding contributions to the scientific and technological development and progress in inland ports, mountainous waterway and other fields since the establishment of our country.
In recent years, basing on the unique environmental conditions of mountainous rivers and reservoir areas and combined with the development strategies, including "the Belt and Road ", "the Economic Belt in the Yangtze River " and "the Shipping Center in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River" , the College of River and Ocean Engineering has formed its own characteristics and advantages in the research of mountainous channel engineering, inland port engineering, geological disaster prevention and control engineering, mountainous sponge city and environmental protection of the Three Gorges reservoir area, etc.
In addition, the college has excellent research and development conditions. There are more than 1200 sets of instruments and equipments, including PIV flow field instrument, laser particle size analyzer, ADV current meter, ARIS1800 dual-frequency sonar underwater imaging system, underwater robot, the flume test system with variable slope, ship model test system for small scale, multi-function port basin, wharf structure test system and other advanced measurement instruments in the world. Besides, there are many professional numerical simulation softwares, such as Abaqus, Fluent, Ansys, Plaxis, Nastran, Adina and so on. The total value of these instruments and equipments is approximately 160 million yuan, where the value of the large equipments is more than 110 million yuan. Moreover, there are over 500 mu of model test site here (including Shuangfu base).
